Lagos and The Algarve region

Here we are at the Marina. Got to sleep in til 6:45 this morning!!

Beautiful hotel:

Deb and Lori enjoying their patio!

We did have a bunch of ants in our bathroom. We opted for telling the front desk vs finding a bat....

Sagres Fortress

Lori, Deb

This is some random cat in a shop that Lori took. These animal lovers are always petting and photographing strays!

Lots of scenery today! At the Southern most tip of Western Europe:

Fortress lighthouse and chapel.

Little windy up here!

We don’t know if it’s a thing, but that rock formation in the center looks like a shoe to us (not a very attractive shoe, but still).

Lagos (means Lakes) and The Algarve

Shopping in this beach town, then walked to Potato Beach. There is a legend that it’s name came from a ship carrying potatoes that capsized and in the morning the beach was covered with potatoes that washed up on shore. Our boat trip guide told us: not true. The truth is far less interesting: named Potato Beach because there used to be a potato field nearby. Buzz kill.

Lunch on the beach!

Then: Boat tour!

This is a replica of the ships the explorers used. It was built in recognition of the Portuguese navigators.
View of Potato Beach from the water side.

El Camino Beach. Once voted the most beautiful beach in Europe. 247 steps down!

Pretty spectacular caves and rock formations.
This is Titanic on the left and the iceberg on the right.
This is the elephant.

The lovers (looks like 2 faces from the side, kissing). Okay....

Above is the cave where the bats live that they do not call the Bat Cave. (Don’t want to scare the tourists).
Here’s the other boat of our group heading back.

Back to the hotel. And then this happened:

And then this happened:

View from our restaurant. Then there may have been more cocktails.

Bye bye to the beautiful pool that we didn’t get to use!

Luggage out at 7:30 am. Off to Lisbon!
